Taking cues from Tate’s existing internal donor recognition plaques and the unique architecture of the building, Herzog & de Meuron wanted us to create a special sign of genuine solidity and quality — that will last as long as the building and age beautifully.
To deliver on such a challenging brief, our team researched numerous materials and fabrication methods, finally suggesting a traditional sand-cast stainless steel, that was pickled and finished with a fine shot peen. The sign weighs over 300kgs and requires specially engineered brackets to secure it to the structure.
